The Masters and The Code

The Masters golf tournament has come to symbolize “tradition” in golf.  All sports have traditions, all schools have traditions, teams, individuals and families also have traditions.  What are the positive values of these traditions?  Are there any negative aspects to any of the traditions you think of?  Does the Code have anything to say about this?  The Code does not address “tradition” but it does contain a tenet which says, “I will compete within the spirit and the letter of the rules of my sport.”  Can you see a connection?  We play by the spirit of the rules because we want to honor the game itself.  Tradition grows out of the deep feelings we develop out of our love for the game.  How important is tradition to you?  What are some of the traditions that you enjoy and are there ways you can honor and build on those traditions?
