Downs Syndrome and the Code

We saw a story about a basketball team that had chosen a young man with Downs Syndrome to be one of the managers.  Being the manager was a thrill for the young man who idolized the team, and those on the team came to realize what a wonderful young man he was. We have seen similar stories in past years, and they are always heart-warming to read. A dying friend of mine once wrote to his nephew, “always be kind to those on the outside.” We all know one or more people who are “on the outside.” Is there anyone you know that you can befriend in a new way? How can we include those on the outside in positive ways? When we do extend our circles of friendship, like the basketball team we usually discover that our lives are enriched as much as those we include.  The Code says that we are to “respect the dignity of every person,” but the spirit of the Code invites us to do the things we can, in the ways that we can. Does this give you any ideas?
