| Mia Hamm, Zak Boggs, and the Code |
Mia Hamm and Zak Boggs recently received the Coach Wooden Citizenship Cup (named in honor of John Wooden), honoring the professional and collegiate athletes who best exemplify the Code for Living. Since her retirement from professional soccer, Mia has spent considerable time raising money for her foundation, which focuses on two issues central to her life: the advancement of bone marrow research and the fight for increased opportunities for girls in sports.
Zak, who is an all-conference soccer player at the University of South Florida and a recent draftee of the New England Revolution, has been a role model to others not only through his tireless work ethic on the field, but also his charitable work in the community.
As we approach the hype and pageantry of the Super Bowl, it is important to remember John Wooden’s words that “what you do off the field and in your life is far more important than anything you do on the field.” Do you agree with that? At the end of the season, what project can your team undertake to make things better for your school, your community, or the world?
