The first step after becoming a member of Athletes for a Better World (ABW) is to adopt the Code for Living as the expected behavior for you personally or for your whole team.
For athletes it means
- Practicing and playing to your full potential
- Following the rules of your coach and the sport
- Being respectful of your teammates and your opponents
- Being a positive role model to your community
For coaches it means
- Coaching firmly yet fairly
- Giving to your players as much as you expect them to give to you
- Treating every player and every opponent with respect and dignity
- Setting a positive example for the team and in your community
For parents and fans it means
- Respecting the gifts and limits of athletes’ abilities
- Being a gracious loser and a humble winner
- Responding to a game as a game, not as a life’s most important event
- Modeling positive behaviors for the athletes and the community
There are many nationally prominent athletes and national sport leagues and teams that are member of Athletes for a Better World (ABW). Their involvement demonstrates the importance of the ABW message and the quality of our programs.
Equally significant are the thousands of local athletes and local sport organizations whose membership is the central focus of ABW programs.
