Adversity and the Code

The hurricanes that have hit this country in the past weeks have created extreme challenges for those affected.  The challenges we face on a regular basis cannot be compared to these, but they do remind us of a common challenge: how do we respond to adversity?  How do we respond if our team loses game after game?  Or, if there is off the field tragedy to our family or community? Or, if we are confronted with any unexpectedly emotional and mental challenge?  Does the Code have anything to say about this?  The Code helps us develop our character; adversity tests character.  How we respond will be in a large part determined by the person we have become, by the internal character we have developed.  If we have sought to develop the values in the Code then we will have the internal strength to face adversity.  We will know that we have to persevere, that we can draw strength from the support of our teammates, and that there will be no shortcut to recovery.  Discuss times when you have faced adversity: how did you cope? Where did you find strength?  What did you learn?
